Let Them Eat Cake
August 4, 2006 Today I met with
Robert Ortiz who is responsible for
merchandizing at Food City who brought along
Nereyda Lopez-Bowden who is
the public relations agent for Food City.
The meeting was a disaster.
Having Food City's public
relations agent present framed the discussion of the meeting. Food City looks at
Hispanic News' concerns as a public relations topic rather than addressing how
to stop the rampant spread of diabetes among Hispanics.
If the
Nereyda Lopez-Bowden website

is any indication of expertise with the significant increase in diabetes among
Hispanics, Food City will need help in diffusing the diabetes time bomb they are
feeding with their high fat food content.
This section now being drafted using the phrase Marie Antoinette
made famous who said, "Let them
eat cake."
August 5, 2006 I received numerous
emails asking why the meeting ended in a disaster.
I had shared with Ortiz
that the same process Hispanic News used in starting and publicizing the Ax
Kimberly Clark boycott to promote immigration reform would be used if we decided
to proceed with a Food City boycott.
Ortiz responded his
Kimberly Clark diapers did not loose one sale because of the Ax KC boycott. It
bother me what he said but more so, it ruffled my feathers on how he said it.
With that I knew instantly
that Ortiz was not an advocate of Hispanic issues, comprehensive immigration
reform and the Kimberly Clark boycott Hispanic News started
and with the meeting going nowhere, I got up and said "send me a letter on what
Food City decides to do" as I walked out of the Food City office.
